Josephine McCommons White
Josephine McCommons White, age 86, of Athens, Georgia, died Monday, April 7, 2003. A native of Greene County, she was born December 9, 1916 to the late Luther Callaway McCommons and Belle Cochran McCommons. In 1934 she graduated from Greensboro High School and later graduated from Piedmont Nursing School as a registered nurse. She practiced for several years at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. She married the late Colonel Hoyt Edward White on March 17, 1941. As an Army officer''s wife, she spent time in Washington DC, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, Georgia, Virginia, Japan and Turkey. She volunteered as a Gray Lady in many military hospitals. She had lived in Athens since 1975 and was a member of Beechwood Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Carter and husband Tom of Nashville, TN and Marge Lowe and husband Tony of Decatur, GA; 4 granddaughters, Cyndi Smith, Nancy Carter, Heidi Lowe, and Nikki Lowe; 2 great-grandchildren, Rylie Smith and Dillan "Bubba" Smith.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Tom Carter Officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made in Memory of Josephine McCommons White to the Macular Degeneration Foundation, P. O. Box 531313, Henderson, NV 39053. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
