Josephine Clifton Obituary

Josephine Stone Clifton, age 75, of Greensboro, Georgia died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Athens Regional Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born June 12, 1928 to the late Joseph Ellison Stone and Nellie Evelyn Little Stone. She attended grammar school in Siloam and graduated from Greensboro High School, class of 1945. During her working career, she worked for Charlie Poulous at City Cafe, Lena Hy Garment Company, Ted Tedder''s Cafe, Nathanael Greene Restaurant, Hometown Manufacturing, Townehouse Restaurant and Granite Shoals Marina. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro. Affectionately called "Miss Jo", she was well known for her cooking. She is survived by two daughters, Edna C. Ogletree and husband Pete of the Greshamville Community and Mary C. Switzer and husband Jamie of Greensboro, GA; two sons, Richard Edward Clifton of White Plains, GA and Wayne Keester Clifton and wife Dianne of Siloam, GA; a sister, Shirley Walden and husband Raymon E. of Stockbridge, GA; three brothers, W. L. "Pep" Stone of Greensboro, GA, Clifford Stone and wife Quida of Comer, GA and Ed Stone and wife Fran of Hendersonville, TN; and four grandchildren, Eric Foster, Jonathan Clifton, Josh Clifton and Kala Jo Ogletree. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Clifton Jr., in 1990; a sister, Eva Lois Griffith; and a grandson, Kyle Foster.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Richard Chewning and Rev. Ed Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Rick Ward, Ernie McLain, David Dellinger, Raymond Arthur, George Boswell, Brian Arthur, Chris Merritt, Jeff Cross and Charles Crumbley. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Murray, Harold Hayes, Jerry Kearney, Earl Engel, Buddy Lindsey, Cotton Boswell, Bobby Boswell, Bobby Roper, Jere Power and Dean Stewart. The family requests that any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 216, Greensboro GA 30642 or the Athens Regional Medical Center Guest House, 1199 Prince Avenue, Athens, GA 30606.
