Joseph Wierzbicki, Sr Obituary

Joseph Charles Wierzbicki, Sr., 85, of Greensboro, GA died Thursday, January 2, 2003. Born July 25, 1917 in Hamtramck, Michigan, he was the son of the late Marian Wierzbicki and Caroline Michalski Wierzbicki. He moved to Lake Tarpon, FL in 1982 and had lived in Greene County since December of 2002. He was a graduate of Hamtramck High School in Michigan. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi in New Haven, Michigan and a member of the Amvets. He retired after twenty years as Office Manager at New Haven Foundry in New Haven, Michigan. Mr. Wierzbicki served 8 years during World War II in the European Theatre and obtained the rank of Chief Quarter Master in the Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Grombik Wierzbicki of Greensboro, GA; one daughter, Carolyn Smith and husband Thomas of Greensboro, GA; three sons, Joseph Wierzbicki Jr. and wife Cathi of Fall Brook, CA, Michael Wierzbicki and wife Barb of St. Clair, MI and Thomas Wierzbicki and wife Cathy of Des Moines, IA; one sister, Sophia Kolly of Destin, FL; eight grandchildren, Joseph Wierzbicki, III, Debbie Thomas, Michael Wierzbicki, Jr., Wendy Wierzbicki, Thomas Wierzbicki, Jr., Stacey Wierzbicki, Sean Smith and Adam Smith; and one great-grandchild, James Thomas, Jr.

Services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Richard Chewning officiating. Interment will follow in Greenview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joseph Wierzbicki Jr., Michael Wierzbicki, Thomas Wierzbicki, Thomas Smith, Stephen Schreifer and James Thomas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday night at the Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
