Jonell Boehle Steele

Jonell Marie Boehle Steele, age 72, of Union Point, GA died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at St. Mary''s Hospice in Athens. She was born on October 22, 1937 in Hondo, Texas to the late Joseph J. Boehle and Adella Lena DeGrodt Boehle. She attended Storm Hill High School in Quihi, Texas. She married Marvin Marcus in 1957 and later married Pope Raymond Steele in 1961. She was more than just a devoted member of Bairds Baptist Church. For years she was a Sunday School teacher and then later served as the Treasurer, Clerk, WMU president of the WMU at Baird''s when it was active and then served for years on the Executive Committee. On a larger scale, she served as a member of the WMU Association Council and was the Churchwide Missions Coordinator. Jonell was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Her joy was her grandchildren and her passion was her work in her church. She also held a special place in her heart for Chad Godbee who named her Mama Jo.

She is survived by four daughters, Lynn McCannnon and husband Bennie of the Bairdstown Community, Sandy Steele of the Bairdstown Community, Debbie Whitehead and husband Richard of High Shoals, GA and Joan Mize and husband Wayne of Union Point, GA; a son Raymond Allen Steele of the Bairdstown Community; a sister, Doris Jacobs of San Antonio, TX; sisters-in law, Frances Boehle, Geneva Huff and Shirley Steele; brothers-in-law, Leroy Steele, C. H. Steele and Joel Steele; grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Whitehead, Jessica Michelle Whitehead, Michael Alan Steele, Mitchell Blake Mize and Justin Wayne Mize; her granddog that she dearly loved, Maddie; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Marvin Marcus and Pope Raymond Steele; a sister, Annadel Otto; and a brother, Wilfred Boehle.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Bairds Baptist Church, 42 Bairdstown Loop, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Danny Holdredge and Rev. John McMillian, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Chad Godbee, Tim Wray, Craig Pruitt, Dan Stephens, Jerry Rhyne and Don Steele. Honorary pallbearers are Ed Cowherd, Bud Wray and Louie Brooks . The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Callaway Funeral Home.
