Johnnie Coleman Meeks, Jr

Johnnie Coleman Meeks, Jr., age 64, of Greensboro, GA, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his residence. Johnnie was born on January 3, 1948 in Madison, GA to the late Johnnie Coleman Meeks, Sr. and Mamie Smith Meeks. He attended Greene County High School and was drafted in the United States Army during the twelfth grade. While in the Army he served in Vietnam and also got his GED. After Vietnam he continued his military service in the Army National Guard. On December 16, 1973 he married the former Barbara Ann Bryan of Greensboro. He worked as a jailer for the Greene County Sheriff''s Office and continued to work in law enforcement for the Union Point and Siloam Police Departments. He was also a dispatcher for Greene County and a security guard for a number of places. His latest job was working for the Greene County Recycling Center. At one time he was a volunteer for the Greensboro Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Bryan Meeks of Greensboro, GA; daughter, Donna Lynn Thomas and husband Andrew of Greensboro, GA; son, James Coleman Meeks of Greensboro, GA; sisters, Patricia Ann Meeks Nation of Greensboro, GA and Mary Ruth Meeks Brown of Union Point, GA; a number of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, June 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are Allen Bryan, Lonnie Brown, Derrick Nation, Lindsey Nation, Randy Purdy, Rusty Taylor and Roger West. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
