Johnnie Gillard Clifton

Johnnie Gillard Clifton, age 91, of Greensboro, GA died Friday, August 13, 2004 at Heardmont Nursing Home in Elberton. A lifelong resident of Greene County he was born on December 10, 1912 to the late Omer Cleveland Clifton and Reva Evereen Carey Clifton. He attended Greene County Schools and during his career he drove a gas truck for eighteen years and the bus for Nathanael Greene Academy for three years. He was a member of Siloam Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Sherrell Clifton of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Patsy Ruth Bell of Decatur, GA; two sons, John Cleveland Clifton of Walnut Grove, GA and Richard Carey Clifton of Comer, GA; three stepchildren, Gail Turner of Washington, GA, Sandra Barnes of Decatur, GA and Charlie Stansell of Loganville, GA; a sister, Hilda Carter of Bostwick, GA; nine grandchildren; six step grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Lem Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Siloam Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons; Steve Bell, John Clifton Jr., Richard Clifton, Steve Clifton, Rodney Clifton and Chad Clifton.
