John "Pete" Burke Yearwood

John Burke “Pete” Yearwood, age 90, of the Greshamville Community, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Morgan Memorial Hospital & Transitional Care Unit in Madison, Georgia. A lifelong resident of Greene County he was born on September 1, 1920 and the last survivor of five children born to the late Rufus Roscoe Yearwood and Nannie Burke Copelan Yearwood. He attended Swords School and Greshamville School. During World War II he served in the United States Army. Until 1966 he was a Dairy Farmer and also operated chicken houses. He sold real estate and in 1978 built the Greshamville Mall which was named by his son, Jay. In the mid eighties he sold the mall and enjoyed fishing and helping his daughter, Dianne, in the chicken houses she operated. Pete was a member of Fork Chapel United Methodist Church in Greshamville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ione Arthur Yearwood in November of 2007; his son, John Arthur “Jay” Yearwood; and his siblings, Thurston C. “Bub” Yearwood, Jessie Edwin “Jake” Yearwood, William Roscoe “Bill” Yearwood and Peggy Joyce Yearwood. He is survived by two daughters, Peggy Leach and Dianne Yearwood, both of the Greshamville Community; grandchildren, Laurie and Jason Robinson, Amy and Jeff Hart, Brad Moon, Kelly Moon, John and Brittney Moon and Kerry and Robert Taylor; great grandchildren, Erica Hart, Benjamin Hart, Bethany Hart, Will Robinson and Kate Robinson; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, Georgia 30650 with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Watkinsville City Cemetery, Whitehall/Simonton Bridge Road, Watkinsville, Georgia 30677. Memorials may be made to Morgan Memorial Hospital & Transitional Care Unit Rehabilitation, 1077 S. Main Street, Madison, GA 30650.
