John Franklin O’Brien, age 76, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. On June 24, 1937, he was born in Providence, Rhode Island to the late John Joseph O’Brien and Evelyn Mae Franklin O’Brien. He graduated from Aldrich High School in Providence and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Rhode Island. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines. For 32 years he worked for BellSouth Advertising and Publishing as a Sales Executive retiring in 1994. On July 2, 1994 he married the former Laura Jean Snyder. In 2001 they moved from Atlanta, GA to Lake Oconee in Greensboro, where he was very active in the community helping with Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. John had a variety of interest including golfing, reading and boating.
He is survived by his wife of nearly twenty years, Laura O’Brien, of Greensboro, GA; sons, Dennis O’Brien of Woodstock, GA, Mark “Beau” O’Brien (Courtney) of Flowery Branch, GA, and Scott Conwell of Plantation, FL; a daughter, Nicole O’Brien of Lucerne, Switzerland; a sister, Joyce Cocroft (Bill) of Warwick, RI; a brother, Paul O’Brien (Sherrie) of Clayton, CA; sister-in-law, Sharon O’Brien of Toledo, OH; six grandchildren, Madison O’Brien, Bailee O’Brien, Mackenzie O’Brien, Baxley O’Brien, Maddox O’Brien and Kendall Conwell; a number of other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother David O’Brien.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, Georgia, 30642 with Father G. Philip Ryan officiating. A reception will follow at Da Corrado Ristorante, 1061 Village Park Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642.
