John Everett Mobley

John Everett Mobley, age 71, of Union Point, Georgia, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.  Mr. Mobley was born in Gastonia, North Carolina on March 28, 1943 to Faye Skipper Sutt and the late Ralph Wilkins Mobley.  He attended elementary school in North Carolina, graduated from Bass High School in Atlanta and attended West Georgia College.  After attending West Georgia College, John joined the City of Atlanta Police Department.  Two years later he joined DeKalb County Police Department, where he worked a K-9 Unit. In 1965 he married Mary Lynn White.  In 1967 he started Mobley Saddle and Harness.  John was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Greensboro and the Buford Masonic Lodge.

John gave his life to Jesus at the age of 9 at Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC. In 1973 he joined Sugar Hill Baptist in Gwinnett County, GA, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.  Upon moving to Greene County in 1997, he joined Union Point First Baptist, where he served as a deacon.  When Grace Fellowship was started, he became a charter member and served as an elder.  John retired to Union Point to raise horses and hay and to enjoy the Greene County life.

In addition to his wife, Mary Lynn Mobley of Union Point, GA, and his mother, Faye Skipper Sutt of Loganville, GA, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Mobley of Auburn, GA; two sons, Will David Mobley of Auburn, GA and Jason Baxter Mobley (Ellen) of Greensboro, GA; two brothers, Steve Mobley (Molly) of Winder, GA and Ronnie Mobley of Sandy Springs, GA; four grandchildren, Rebecca Hope Mobley, Rhett Mobley, Cole Mobley and Anna Lynn Mobley; two great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship with Dr. Jimmy Long officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until time for the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Grace Fellowship, Mission Team Program, 1971 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
