John Carroll Dodd, Jr

John Carroll Dodd, Jr., 74, of Greensboro, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 15, 2008. He was born on May 21, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late John Carroll Dodd, Sr. and Agnes L. Kilgore Dodd. He was a graduate of Orange County High School in 1952 and Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a minor in Physical Education. He married Mary Ann Shively in 1957. He attended Kent State University where he received his Masters of Science in Administration. John began his teaching career at University School and spent a majority of his career at the Lakewood Public Schools in Cleveland, first as a teacher and then as an administrator at Hayes Elementary School until his retirement in 1994.

At a young age he was introduced to canoeing in the outdoors of Ontario, Canada. He subsequently spent 48 summers with family and friends at his cabin on Lake Penage in northern Ontario.

After retirement John and Mary Ann moved to Greensboro in 1995 to live on Lake Oconee near Reynolds Plantation. They made many wonderful friends and considered this their year-round alternative to their Canadian camp. John then dedicated his volunteer efforts to the Old Salem Fire Department.

John is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Ann Dodd, of Greensboro, GA; his three children: John Carroll Dodd, III and wife Lori of Westport, CT; Thomas Guy Dodd and wife Kimberly Weems of Saranac Lake; Margaret Ann Dodd of Greensboro, GA; brothers: Jerry Dodd and wife Cate of Woodstock, GA and William Dodd and wife Diane of Westport, NY; grandchildren: Sophie Catherine Dodd, Reilly Carroll Dodd, Caroline Grace Dodd, Hannah Elizabeth Dodd, Stephanie Hope Dodd and John Thomas Dodd; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. David Key officiating. A reception will follow at the historic Hall-Thomas house next door to the funeral home with everybody invited to John''s home afterwards.
