John Wilbur Cawthon, Jr. age 83, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Greene County on September 26, 1921 he was the son of the late John Wilbur Cawthon, Sr. and Clyde McCommons Cawthon who were both from Greene County. He attended Greensboro High School before graduating from high school in Arkansas and Magnolia A & M College. During World War II he served in the United States Army. In May of 1947 he married Eloise Gandy. This was also the year he began his record of 58 straight years in the same seat attending every University of Georgia home football game. On January 3, 1984 he retired from the Greensboro Post Office as a rural mail carrier after thirty-two years of service. After retirement he enjoyed football and traveling. Mr. Cawthon was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro where he was a member of the Men''s Bible Class.

In addition to his wife, Eloise Cawthon of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by a daughter, Debra Taylor and husband Jeff of Mt. Airy, MD; three sons, John Stephen Cawthon of Atlanta, GA, Ken Cawthon and wife Kathy of Greensboro, GA and Jeff Cawthon and wife Tracy of Ellaville, GA; ten grandchildren, Matthew Taylor, Allison Taylor, Michelle Taylor, Jessi Cawthon, Maggie Cawthon, Polly Cawthon, Kristy Cawthon, Becky Cawthon, April Cox and Ray Anders; three great grandchildren, MaKaylee Nation, KaeLeigh Anders and Hayden Cox; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro with Percy Marchman and Rev. Richard Chewning officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Fred Hunter, Dwight Winslett, Ray Copelan, Dan Jones, Larry Smith, Gary Davenport, Herbie Thurmond, Sam Roper and Ross McCommons. Honorary pallbearers are Nancy Chapman, Harold Glass, Charlton Veazey, Herbert Chapman, Bill Moore, Jimmy English, Bobby Boswell, Goodwin Bryan, Gus Channell and Comer Tolbert. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night at the funeral home. Any memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O.
