Joe Bruce McCurley also known by his Indian name "Gray Fox", age 70, of the Greshamville Community in Greene County, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at his home. Born in Stephens County, Georgia on August 7, 1935 he was the son of the late H. Dwight McCurley and Dorny Veil Richie McCurley. He was a brick mason by trade and had lived in Greshamville for the past 10 years. He loved his cats, enjoyed hunting arrowheads, going fishing and was very proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage.
He is survived by his first wife, Carolyn Yvonne Kennedy McCurley; four daughters, Barbara Plunkett of Lawrenceville, GA, Tracie McCurley and companion Guillermo Garcia Lopez of Winder, GA, Becky McCurley and husband James Laborde of Winder, GA, and Bonnie Martinez and husband Jose'' of Auburn, GA; a son, Curtis McCurley and wife Teresa of the Greshamville Community; his close friend and companion, Alesia Priest who had been with him nearly six years; thirteen grandchildren, Hunter McCurley, Too Bear McCurley, Hawk Blue McCurley, Chris Plunkett, April Plunkett, Destiny Plunkett, Joni Duncan, Brandon Duncan, Timothy Duncan, Tulsa Laborde, Lake Laborde, Maria Martinez and Annabell Martinez; and numerous friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dwayne McCurley; a sister, Shirley McCurley; a grandson, Kevin Duncan; and a son-in-law, Carroll Plunkett.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Eric Buffington officiating. Interment will follow at Farmington Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are James Laborde, Jose'' Martinez, Hunter McCurley, Boo White, Becky McCurley,Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Too Bear McCurley and Chris Plunkett.
