Joan Barbara Nelsen Mulford

Joan Barbara Nelsen Mulford of White Plains, GA passed away, Sunday, May 15, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA.  Born in Orchard, Nebraska on November 10, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Andrew Nelsen and Helen Wessman Nelsen.  She graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1956 and received an Associate Degree from Norfolk Junior College.  Joan married Keith Lavern Mulford on April 4, 1959  and out of this union they had two children, Kayleen and Allan. They moved from Omaha, NE to Georgia in 1971 and in 1993 they moved to Lake Oconee in Greene County.  From 1959 until 1966 she taught kindergarten in Millard Public School District in Omaha, NE and later substituted from 1972 until 1973 in Doraville, GA.  She and her husband were founding members of Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed studying the scripture.  Along with her husband she volunteered for three years supplying the refreshments after church.  While living in Nebraska, she was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for several years.  All of her life she was a people person who thoroughly enjoyed her family and helping others.

Joan is survived by her husband, Keith Mulford of White Plains, GA; her daughter, Kayleen Mulford Ringer (Dr. Dave Ringer) of Eatonton, GA; son, Allan Mulford (Bobbie) of Stanton, KY; five grandchildren, Andrew Ringer (Alison) and their son Max Ringer, Joshua Ringer (Bailey) and their son, Henry, Isaac Ringer, Abigail Ringer and Anfisa Ringer; sister, Kathleen Nelsen Stafford (Larry) of Chandler, AZ; mother-in-law, Milda Hoppe Mulford; brothers-in-law, Donald Mulford (Jackie) of Kansas City, MO and James “Jim” Mulford (Debbie) of Denver, CO; a number of other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Nelsen and sister-in-law, Sharyl Mulford.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA 31024 with Pastor Andy Schroeder officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church.  The family requests that any memorials be made to Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA 31024.
