Jerry L. Wisdom

Gerald (Jerry) L. Wisdom, 72, of Greensboro, GA died Saturday, April 4, 2009 in the presence of his loving wife, Ellen, and their two children following a long illness. He was born September 17, 1936 to the late Orville and Elnora Wisdom in New Albany, Indiana. Jerry graduated from Paoli High School, Paoli, IN in 1954. After high school he joined the United States Air Force serving 4 years as a medic. Nineteen years later he went back into the Air National Guard and served 17 years in Ft. Wayne, IN as a medic, and later as a fireman. He was the only non-officer to fly in the backseat of the F-100 and F-4. Jerry married Ellen K. Haertel, August 15, 1964. He and Ellen were blessed with two children.

Jerry and Ellen moved to Greensboro in 1996. He retired from Cincinnati Insurance Company in 2002. Jerry served as the Greene County voting registrar twice. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, volunteering as a mentor at the elementary school, working with Habitat for Humanity, and volunteering as a first responder and fireman for Old Salem Fire Department. He enjoyed mission work at Wear''s Valley Ranch Children''s Home in Severville, Tennessee. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family. Jerry loved the Lord and served in a number of ways in the churches he attended over the years and was presently a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Greensboro.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Ellen, his two children, Kim Horton of Bellefonte, PA and Kevin Wisdom of Holland, MI and their spouses; and six grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan and Emily Horton, Tyler, Spencer and Malynn Wisdom; two brothers, Glennis Wisdom of Sellersburg, IN and Garey Wisdom of Carrollton, TX; and many other friends and relatives.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church in Greensboro, Georgia with Dr. Jimmy A. Long officiating. Graveside services will be held Friday, April 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with military honors at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana. Serving as pallbearers are Jim Meadows, Howell Cobb, Earl Smith, Art Lightsey, Tom Robinson and Keith Lindsey. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday night at Grace Fellowship Church and from 1:00 p.m to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday before the service at Grace Fellowship Church.
