Jean Newson Moxon McGay of Greensboro, GA formerly of Penney Farms, FL, died on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at her residence at the age of 92. Jean was born in Taunton, MA on October 1, 1926, a daughter of the late Walter R. Moxon and Clara Newson Moxon. She graduated from Hempstead High School in Hempstead, NY, where she was a drum majorette. She continued her education at Adelphi College in Garden City, NY receiving a Bachelor’s Degree. On January 26, 1947, she married Harold Spence McGay, Jr. In addition to being a homemaker, Jean was a math teacher at the University of Maryland, worked as a Computer for John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and worked for Douglas Air Craft while living in California. After the death of her husband in October of 2015, Jean moved to Greensboro to live with her daughter. Jean was a member of Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church. She always enjoyed early morning Bible study on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Del Webb. A lady of many talents she enjoyed the cello (with the Bristol Virginia Symphonic Orchestra), piano, painting, tap dancing, singing, playing bridge and bowling. She was known for her kind nature (especially her smile) and community services. As a volunteer for the Surrey Club in Pennsylvania, Jean drove the van for seniors and was loved by everyone who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Harold Spence McGay, Jr., she was preceded in death by her siblings: Walter Moxon, Glenis Anderson and Arlene Geise. She is survived by two daughters Ginger Claire McGay Clark (David Marion Clark) of Greensboro, GA and Tracie Ann McGay Wilson (Grant Wilson) of South Yarmouth, MA; three sons, Robert Lawrence McGay (Connie McGay) of Oldsmar, FL, Douglas Kendrick McGay of Green Cove Springs, FL, and Dr. Donal Spence McGay (Dr. Valentina DeNardis) of Phoenixville, PA; twenty grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends
Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 18, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, 113 Scott Rd, Eatonton, GA 31024 with Rev. Sam Smith officiating. Inurnment will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA to be determined. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church or the Penney Retirement Community (for the Resident Aid Fund). McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
