Janice Crouse Thorpe passed to our Creator with her family by her side September 30, 2013. She was born in Pratt, Kansas on January 18, 1935 to the late Ansel A. Crouse and Ethel Childers Crouse. She graduated from Pratt High School in Pratt, Kansas and attended the University of Kansas. She married Stephen Thorpe on June 11, 1954 and followed her husband to Evanston, Illinois where she was employed at State Bank & Trust while he completed his education at Northwestern University. Following 24 years and raising three children in Chicago she and Stephen moved to Los Angeles for seven years and then returned to the Chicago area in 1986. In 1992 her husband retired after 35 years with Sears, Roebuck and Co. and he and Janice began to explore the joys of travel to Europe, Russia, Africa, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. In 1996 they moved to Reynolds Plantation, Greene Co., Georgia. There she enjoyed playing golf, water sports, visiting with friends and entertaining children and grandchildren from Illinois, California and Georgia. She was a member of the Evanston (IL) Women''s Club, the LaCanada (CA) Women''s Club, the Plantation Ladies''s Club and the Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church.
Janice is survived by her husband, Stephen, of Greensboro, GA; her daughter, Stephanie Lynn Bengtsson and her husband Tommy of DesPlaines, IL; her son, John Douglas Thorpe and his wife Katherine Farr Thorpe of Santa Clarita, CA; her daughter Jennifer Ann Lawrence and her husband Rory of Suwanee, GA; her grandchildren: Max Bengtsson, Wesley Bengtsson, Megan Thorpe, Matthew Thorpe, Keely Lawrence and Kyra Lawrence.
Memorial services will be held, Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, Eatonton, GA with Dr. Bill Barton officiating. The family will receive friends in the Narthex following the service. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, Kansas.
