Janet Madaris Beasley, age 79, of Greensboro, GA, died on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at her residence. Born in Colorado Springs, CO on December 8, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Duke Madaris and Dessie Fowler Madaris. She graduated from Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga, GA and received further education from Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, TN and the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Later she earned a Master''s Degree in Elementary Education from Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. In 1954 she married Ralph Judson Beasley. Her career in teaching began at Chickamauga Elementary School, from there to Winder Elementary School, then Evansdale Elementary School and she retired in 1994 from DeKalb School System. She taught on and off from 1955 until 1994 in first through seventh grades. In 1998 they made their home permanently in Greene County. For many years she was an active member of Walker United Methodist Church and the Women''s Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Newcomers Club of Lake Oconee and the Auxiliary at Egleston in Atlanta, GA. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and reading stories to young children.
In addition to her husband, Ralph Beasley, of Greensboro, GA, she is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Leigh Beasley Mattingly and husband Paul of Powder Springs, GA; and a son, Michael Scott Beasley of Greensboro, GA; and a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Madaris High.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. John Pike officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. The family requests that any memorials be made to Walker United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.
