Jamie Thurmond Eley, age 70, of White Plains, GA passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Atlanta Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sandersville, GA on August 1, 1948, he was the son of the late John William “J Buck” Eley and Dorothy Mae Thurmond Eley. Jamie attended Greene County High School where he was a member of FFA and graduated in 1966. After high school he joined the Army National Guard serving his country for six years. Jamie married the former Dollie Leach on October 16, 1971. He was part owner/operator of Eley Acres Farm. At the time of his death he had retired from dairy farming. Jamie was a longtime member of White Plains Baptist Church where he headed the House and Grounds Committee for many years. He was a member of the Greene County Farm Bureau, Dairy Association and Cattleman Association. He was also past member of the Moose Lodge and VFW. He was a man of many talents including carpentry and had helped with building of the Pastorium of the White Plains Baptist Church and his own home. Wagon trains, riding horses and every aspect of farming were his favorite hobbies. Jamie was a great example of what an amazing husband, father and friend should be.
In addition to his wife, Dollie Leach Eley of White Plains, GA, he is survived by his daughters, Ginger Eley (Michael Chaudoin) of Eatonton, GA and Brittany Leach of Greensboro, GA; granddaughter, Ariella “Ella” Williams; brothers, Phil Eley (Jan) of White Plains, GA and Keith Eley (Cheryl) of White Plains, GA; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Eley, Sr.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at White Plains Baptist Church, 1020 Main Street East, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Curtis Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Williams, Wayne Taylor, John Lacey, Ike Moore, David Price and Jamie Rhodes. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at the church.
