James Cecil “Jimmy” Edwards, Jr.
James Cecil “Jimmy” Edwards, Jr., age 49, of Union Point, Georgia, died Monday, April 13, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born in Greensboro on March 25, 1966 to Lois Yvonne McElhannon West and James Cecil “Jim” Edwards, Sr. Jimmy graduated from Greene County High School in the class of 1984. All he ever wanted to do was drive a truck and since he was eighteen that is what he enjoyed doing the most. He worked for Lone Star Transportation in Texas and most recently Montgomery Transport in Alabama, where he was working at the time of his death. When he was younger he was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point GA, but later joined Mt. Stephens Baptist Church in White Plains, GA. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Jimmy was a long haul driver since 1987 and traveled a lot, but enjoyed being at home with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Gordon West and his niece, Ashley Huff Brooks. Survivors include his mother, Lois McElhannon West of Union Point, GA; his father James Cecil “Jim” Edwards, Sr. and stepmother Brenda of White Plains, GA; sisters and brothers, Laurie McCannon of Siloam, GA, Jenny Parker (Tony) of Maxeys, GA, Tracey Laux (Terry) of White Plains, GA, Julie Davis (Ray) of Buford, GA; Lance Branyan (Mery) of Evans, GA and Mitchell Mize (Jamie) of Mansfield, GA; nieces, Callie McCannon, Angie Yearwood, Jamie Stancill, Kendra Pursell, Ivie Davis; nephews, Bill McCannon, Cristian Branyan, Alex Branyan, Hunter Davis, and Mason Mize; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Stephens Baptist Church, 6859 Edwards Road, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Bruce Lovin, Rev. Dennis Garner and Rev. Brenda Vandiver officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Stephens Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Bill McCannon, Scott Burden, Ronnie Yearwood, Lance Branyan, Ray Davis, Lee Stancill, Tony Parker and Terry Laux.
