James Tyler Scoggins
James Tyler Scoggins, age 75, of Greensboro, GA, died on Sunday, May 21, 2017. He was born on February 1, 1942 in Rayle, GA, to the late Arthur Calvin Scoggins and Susie Beatrice Corbert Scoggins. James grew up in Rayle, where he received his education from Court Ground School House until the tenth grade. For sixteen years he worked for McAvoy Wood Products and then proudly served his country in the United States Army for five years. During this time he was stationed in Vietnam where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart, Expert Infantry Man and two Overseas Bars. He married the former Mary Durham on Christmas Day, 1962. When he returned from the Vietnam War, he worked on the Wallace Dam for nearly four years and Walker Wood Products for nearly fifteen years. Because of his health he went on VA disability. Over the years he also helped Judy Hodnett. He was a member of the Centennial Christian Church. He had a passion for tractors and loved playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.
In addition to his wife, Mary Scoggins of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by his children, Wesley Arthur Scoggins (Allyson) of Social Circle, GA and Wanda Lisa Moon (Lester) of Greensboro, GA; sister, Susie Mae Brenicer of Rayle, GA; two brothers, A. C. Scoggins (Cathy) of Sumter, SC and Fred Scoggins of Milford, KS; seven grandchildren, Joshua Scoggins (Lori), Jennifer Scoggins-Gaddy (Corey), Jessica Martin (Josh), Alexis Scoggins, Jordan Moon, Russell Moon and Michael Taylor; eight great grandchildren, Clint Scoggins, Gauge Gaddy, Emmalee Gaddy, Manny Scoggins, Annie Scoggins, Tyler Martin, Jaiden Taylor and Tegan Taylor; other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Scoggins.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Jeff Perkins, Rev. Tom Compton and Rev. Alex Ward officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Siloam Cemetery, Church Street, Siloam, GA 30665. Serving as pallbearers are Jeff Smith, Keith McMuilln, David Price, William Myers, Michael Lanier and Tommy Parrish. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
