James Clarence Roper
James Clarence “Jimmy” Roper, age 72, of Washington, GA died Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Landmark Hospital in Athens, GA. Born on April 27, 1943 in Ramer, Alabama, he was the son of the late James Cleveland Roper and Ruby Garner Roper. He graduated from Ramer High School in Montgomery, AL. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His working career began at the Naval Shipyard in Charleston, SC. After moving to Greensboro he started working for Keystone which later became Alcan Aluminum where he was a supervisor and worked for twenty years. He was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church. He had lived in Greensboro, Crawfordville and for the last seven years in Washington, GA. Jimmy thoroughly enjoyed fishing, woodworking and John Wayne movies.
He is survived by three sons, Tracy Roper and wife Kathryn of Social Circle, GA, Derek Roper and wife Nikki of Easley, SC and Kevin Roper of Covington, GA; seven grandchildren, Callie Roper, Jace Roper, Mitch Roper, Jaynie Roper, Grant Roper, Cole Roper and Paulina Roper; and many friends around Greensboro, Crawfordville, and Washington. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margie Braden.
Funeral Services will be held, Monday, May 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Sandy Cross Baptist Church, 3028 Sandy Cross Road, NW, Crawfordville, GA 30631 with Rev. Larry T. Davison officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home and Monday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at Sandy Cross Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers are Jace Roper, Mitch Roper, Willie Nunn, Brian Dawson, Newton Gunter and Joey Griffin. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
