James Boswell "Jimmy" English

James Boswell “Jimmy” English, age 84, a lifelong resident of Penfield, GA passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Piedmont Athens Regional in Athens, GA.  Jimmy was born November 11, 1934 in Penfield, GA to the late George Boswell English and Eula Dell Jennings English.  Jimmy graduated from Greensboro High School in 1952 and received his BBA from the University of Georgia in 1956.  After graduation, he entered into the United States Army where he proudly served his country receiving an honorable discharge in 1963.  On April 6, 1963 he married the former Dianne Hartley from Sandersville.  He enjoyed a long and successful career at the Greensboro Post Office for forty-two and one half years and was later Postmaster at Hull.  Jimmy had many hobbies and passions enjoying hunting, gardening, riding his bike, and old rusty tractors, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with friends.  He also enjoyed his liver and white pointer dogs, muscle cars, and antique and classic cars as long as they were Fords and was a loyal Georgia Bulldog football fan.  As a member of the San Marino Lodge he had received his 50 year pin.  His entire life Jimmy was a faithful member of Penfield Presbyterian Church, where he served as treasurer and elder for many years.

In addition to his wife of fifty-six years, Dianne English of Penfield, GA, Jimmy is survived by his two children, Tracy English (Dee) of Penfield, GA and Jan English Spagnuolo (Carl) of North Palm Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Jaden Thrift and Jake Thrift; two nieces Diane Cranford and Lynn Fields; and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his brother, George W. “Boots” English of Rockhill, SC.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 117 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Larry Glover officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until time for the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Thornton, Emzelle Daniel, Larry Callaway, Brad Walker, Carl Spagnuolo, and Jacob Thrift. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Conger, Johnny Wheeler, Bobby Boswell, Carey Williams, John Colclough, Jimmy Finch, Comer Tolbert and the Georgia State Patrol. The family requests that any memorials be made in Jimmy English’s memory to Nathanael Greene Academy, P. O.
