James Harrison Obituary

JAMES FLOYD “RED” HARRISON

James Floyd “Red” Harrison departed his earthly home and was welcomed into his heavenly home on July 26, 2016 at 0900 A.M. at Abbey Hospice Facility with his wife and daughter at his side. He was 84 years old and would have turned 85 on August 7th of this year.

James was born in Winder Georgia to the parents of J. F. Harrison and Susie Collins. He moved to Social Circle Georgia at an early age and grew up there with his parents and 6 siblings. Between the years 1953 and 1955, James proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1958 James again made his family proud when he graduated from the Police Academy.  He then loyally protected the Atlanta community as a police officer for 30 years. He retired after that time and worked for private security for the next 10 years continuing his efforts to protect the community.  During the same time, James and his wife of 59 years raised their son and daughter in Stone Mountain Georgia. Tragedy struck in 2005 and James was devastated at the sudden and unexpected loss of his son and namesake “Jimmy” James Harrison. He never recovered from the loss and must be rejoicing today at their reunion. James and his wife then moved to the Lake Oconee Community where he and his wife lived until his last breath.  James also participated in and was active in the Fraternal Order of Police to which he still belonged as well as a Mason for the last 50 years.  James loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Known as “Uncle Red” to the Nieces, Nephews, and Great Nieces and Great Nephews, he spent time teaching them to hunt, fish, ski, or whatever other exciting activity they were involved in.  He loved them all and took great pleasure in the little ones and they all loved him dearly.

James is preceded in death by his parents J.F. Harrison and Susie Collins; his siblings: Howard Harrison, Nell Harrison, Lula Kines, Leona Lemonds and Lois Hubble; and his son James “Jimmy “Harrison.

James is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years Juanita Harrison; his only daughter Jill Hall (Carl); his Grandchildren: Jonathan Hall, Joseph Harrison, and Michael Hall; one Great Grandson Travis Hall; Brother Bobby Harrison; and a multitude of Nieces and Nephews as well as Great Nieces and Nephews.
