James “Jim” Christopher Gunnin Jr., age 61, of Winterville, GA died Friday, December 12, 2003 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born in Union Point, GA on January 13, 1942 to the late James Christopher Gunnin, Sr. and Lula Cornelia Powers Gunnin. While in the United States Army he graduated from high school in Germany. During the Vietnam War, he served in combat duty twice and was in special intelligence. After twenty years of service he retired from the Army in 1979. He began a dedicated and distinguished law enforcement career which included service with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Greene County Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Department as a special investigator, and finished his career at the Union Point Police Department.
Survivors include a daughter, Francine Gunnin of Winterville, GA; three sons, David Gunnin of Carlton, GA, Darren Gunnin of Winterville, GA and Donald Gunnin of Maxeys, GA; friend, Glenda Atkinson of Winterville, GA; and seven grandchildren.
