James Moore “Jimmy” Eley of Atlanta, GA, died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was 76. A native of Greene County, GA, he was born in White Plains on August 17, 1937 to the late Thomas Bennett and Christine Wheeler Eley. He attended elementary school in White Plains and high school in Greensboro. From 1962 to 1965, he served his country in the United States Army. In March of 1969 he married the former Martha Joan Long and they have lived in Atlanta for forty-three years. He worked as a mechanic rebuilding engines for Southeast Engines and National Engines retiring in 2002. Jimmy had a variety of interests including working on cars, tinkering and bird hunting, especially quail. He was a quiet, easy going person who loved to be at home with his family.
In addition to his wife, Martha Joan Long Eley of Atlanta, GA, he is survived by two daughters, Christine Roberts (David) of Lawrenceville, GA and Shannon Stokes of Lawrenceville, GA; six sisters, Patsy Matysiak (Al, Sr.) of Milledgeville, GA, Nita Cannon (Steve) of Dahlonega, GA, Hilda Eley of Oxford, GA, Christine Doggett (Jim) of Oxford, GA, Vonda Landrum (Doug) of Watkinsville, GA and Teresa Dolvin (Bobby) of Watkinsville, GA; two brothers, Ted Eley (Linda) of Watkinsville, GA and John Eley (Betty) of White Plains, GA; two granddaughters, Alyson Roberts and Elisabeth Stokes; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommie G. Eley.
Funeral Services will be held, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel in Greensboro, GA with Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip officiating. Interment will follow at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, 1020 Main Street W, White Plains, GA 30678. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are David Roberts, Kendall Eley, Mitchel Eley, Michael Eley, Al Matysiak, Jr. and John Matysiak. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
