Jackie Tomlin Obituary

Jackie Paul "Jack" Tomlin, 68, of Woodville, GA passed away on November 2, 2013 at Athens Regional Medical Center. He suffered from a sudden aortic dissection and was unable to recover. Jack was born June 17, 1945 to the late Runie and Geneva Cargile Tomlin in Porterdale, GA. On June 6, 1967 he married Margarette Sue Nobles with whom he had four children and 15 grandchildren. He attended school in Covington as a child and graduated from Newton County High School in 1963. He furthered his education at Tennessee Temple University and Seminary in Chattanooga, TN. After graduating, he became the principal at Tabernacle Christian School in Covington with Pastor R. Hudson Moody. Jack also worked for Westside Church School in Jackson, GA and Calvary Baptist Church in Carl, GA under Pastor Larry Youngblood. He also filled in as an interim pastor at several churches in his early career. Later he worked as the Coordinator in the State of Georgia for Accelerated Christian Education for many years. He visited numerous Christian Schools that he helped start and train the staff. He later became the Director of Georgia Christian Education Association and Christian Heritage Home School Academy until his death. Most recently he was the Assistant Pastor at Bethel Baptist Church of Greensboro, GA serving with his son, Pastor Robert Tomlin. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren, and serving his Lord. He loved old cars, mostly Fords between the years of 1954 and 1956 and was very good with his hands doing auto restoration and woodworking. He had a unique sense of humor and could write sweet, funny poems and spiritual devotions. His children and grandchildren loved to tease him about being hard of hearing and being a slow poke driver. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue Nobles Tomlin; three sons, Robert Paul "Bobby" Tomlin and wife Rhonda Lynn (Housworth) and their seven children, Evan Luke, Austin Daniel, Megan Elisabeth, Cameron Paul, Logan Matthew, Reagan Michael and Kathryn Grace of Siloam, GA; Michael Ray Tomlin and wife Christa Marie (Pullen) and their three children, Patrick Douglas, Genna Claire and Sean Riley of Bethlehem, GA; Jonathan David Tomlin and wife Heather Dianne (Youngblood) and their three children, Hadley Dana, Carson David and Brett Dawson of Auburn, GA; a daughter, Jacquelyn Suzanne (Tomlin) Browning and husband Scott Browning and their two children, Ashlyn Grace and Tristan Scott of Buford, GA; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
