Jack Merritt, age 97, of Greensboro, GA died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Greene Point Health Care & Rehab in Union Point, GA. Mr. Merritt was born March 8, 1914 in Warren County to the late Charlie Merritt and Bessie Raley Merritt, but lived all of his life in Greene County. He worked at Mary Leila Cotton Mill as a fixer and retired in 1979. He enjoyed coon hunting and rabbit hunting with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Annie Kate Merritt; a daughter, Rita M. Chappell; a son Edward E. Merritt; and siblings, Odessa M. Worsham, Della Mae M. Crawford, Edward Merritt and C. G. "Babe" Merritt. He is survived by two daughters, Elaine M. Cantrell and husband Terry of White Plains, GA and Jacqueline M. Smith and husband Richard of Altamonte Springs, FL; a son Bobby Merritt of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Julia Mann of Lithonia, GA; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service Friday at McCommons Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to White Plains Baptist Church, P. O.
