J. Dyar Obituary

Jonathan Pressly “J. P.” Dyar III, 89, of the Greshamville Community died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. Born October 27, 1918 in Morgan County in Buckhead, GA, he was the son of the late Clifford Henry Dyar, Sr. and Pattie McWhorter Dyar. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1935, North Georgia College in 1937 and attended the University of Georgia. In 1945, he married Martha Sue Freeman of Greensboro, GA. He was the owner and operator of a dairy farm, raised beef cattle and was a logger. He was a founding member of the Greene County Farm Bureau, where he served as past president and director and also the Greene County Livestock Association, where he served as president, treasurer and director. He was a past member of the Greene County Board of Education and a former Greene County Tax Assessor. For over 40 years, he was the announcer of the Greene County Livestock Rodeo. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Greshamville, where he taught Sunday School. J. P. was an avid Braves fan and loved watching his grandchildren play sports at Nathanael Greene Academy. He is survived by his wife, Martha Sue Freeman Dyar, of the Greshamville Community; three daughters, Susan Dyar of Decatur, GA, Pattie Dyar Gilbert and husband Dwayne of Watkinsville, GA and Margaret Dyar Patrick and husband Mike of the Greshamville Community; a son, Jonathan Pressly “Jon” Dyar IV and wife Teresa of the Greshamville Community; eight grandchildren, Donna Gilbert Gakstatter and husband Eric, Geri Gilbert Walker and husband James, Kelly Manders and husband Brandon, Pres Dyar and wife Bobbi, Andy Dyar and wife Laura, Clint Patrick and wife Katie, Cody Patrick and wife Joanie and Rachel Patrick; five great grandchildren, Reagan Gakstatter, Bailey Gakstatter, Emma Manders, Jeremy Dyar and Malachi Dyar; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George M. Dyar Sr., Patrick M. Dyar Sr. and Clifford Henry Dyar Jr. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church of Greshamville with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Pres Dyar, Andy Dyar, Clint Patrick, Cody Patrick, Brandon Manders, Eric Gakstatter and James Walker. Honorary pallbearers are the Greene County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at the Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650 or the charity of your choice. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
