Irene Gentry, age 88, of the Liberty Community, died Friday, December 30, 2005 at Willow Run Retirement Home in Greensboro. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born on May 1, 1917 to the late Robert Herschel Gentry and Reba Turner Gentry. She graduated from Greensboro High School. She then attended North Georgia College and graduated from the University of Georgia. During her working career, she taught in Heard County and Siloam, GA. She was teaching at F. T. Corry in Greensboro when she retired. Miss Irene was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church and a Charter Member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Survivors include a sister, Hazel Gentry Copelan and husband Norris of Martinez, GA; a sister-in-law, Shirley Gentry of Athens, GA; two nieces, Janet Hallman and husband David of Berea, KY and Mary Beth Patat and husband Brice of Waldorf, MD; a nephew, Robert Copelan and wife Gabriele of Flowery Branch, GA; three great nephews, Josh Holliday, Robert Holliday and Hunter Patat; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Rebecca Gentry and Rayford Gentry.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Nicholas officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Copelan, Josh Holliday, Ben Fowler, George Robert Boswell, Farrett Boswell and Sidney Bryson.
