Otis Hubert Mize, age 68, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born on February 19, 1941, the son of the late Otis Mitchell Mize and Mildred Griffith Mize. He attended Greensboro High School and later married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Batchelor on August 31, 1963. His working career started with Greensboro Lumber Company, then Camak Lumber Company and Burt Lumber Company in Washington, Georgia. He later worked for Universal Rundle and Chipman Union in Union Point, Georgia. His latest job was working at Port Armor as a Golf Course Maintenance Technician. Hubert was a member of the Greene County Country Club where he enjoyed golfing with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point, Georgia.
He is survived by a daughter, Beth M. McCommons and husband Ross "Red Hoss" of the Eatonton, GA; two sons, Scott Mize and wife Tami of Union Point, GA and Kevin Mize and wife Brandy of Eatonton, GA; a sister, Jeanett Johnson and husband Johnny of Union Point, GA; four grandchildren, Amber McCommons, Shaun McCommons, Jordan Mize and Haley Mize; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point, GA with Rev. Farrett Boswell and Rev. Colin Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Lance Wilson, Freddie Walker, Skipper Mize, Cliff Mize, Tommy Johnson and Allen Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Batchelor, Don Ellis, Gary Robinson, John Osborne, Gerald Strozier, Millard Mize, Johnny M. Johnson, Carl Jackson, Larry Mize, Johnny Johnson, Scott Deering and Roy Nation. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home.
