Henrietta Kell O'Neal

Henrietta Kell O’Neal, age 89, of Siloam, Georgia, died on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Willow Run Retirement Home. Born in Oglethorpe County on October 2, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Henry Pierce Kell and Dora Jane Adams Kell. Henrietta grew up in Bairdstown and in 1936 was the first honor student to graduate from Maxey’s High School. After high school she worked at Union Manufacturing in Union Point. On December 22, 1940 she married the late Samuel Isaac “Ike” O’Neal, Sr. For a brief time they lived in Atlanta where she worked with the Veterans Administration. They purchased a farm in Siloam and returned to Greene County to live and raise their sons on the farm. She was a member of Siloam Methodist Church. For a year she lived at the Oconee House in Eatonton, GA and had made her home at Willow Run Retirement Home for the last year and a half. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ike O’Neal in October of 1976; two sons, Samuel Isaac “Sammy” O’Neal, Jr. and Charles Daniel “Danny” O’Neal; and a sister, Dorothy Redwine. She is survived by four sisters, Betty Culbertson of Pelham, AL, Clem Ferguson of Morrow, GA, Thelma Head of Social Circle, GA and Josephine Arthur of Norcross, GA; two brothers, Johnny Kell of Eatonton, GA and Michael Kell of McDonough, GA; daughter-in-law, Janice Roper of Greensboro, GA; three grandchildren, Amy Boren and husband Jay of Newnan, GA, Samuel Isaac “Pete” O’Neal, III and wife Kristy of Greensboro, GA and Win O’Neal and wife Kasie of Crawford, GA; and five great grandchildren, Caden Boren, Patrick Boren, Caroline Boren, Samantha O’Neal and Samuel Isaac “Ike” O’Neal IV; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Siloam Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Nicholas and Rev. Bert Mathews Officiating. Interment will follow at Siloam Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Don Channell, Sidney Bryson, Thurmond Jarrard, Edward “Red Top” Clements, Billy Ward and Harvey Higdon. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at McCommons Funeral Home.
