Helen Bryans Thurmond, 69, of Greensboro, Georgia died Wednesday, November 13, 2002. Born December 7, 1932 in Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late Arford Rocele Bryans and Marguerite Elizabeth Turner Bryans. In 1949 at the age of 16 she graduated from Jonesboro High School and started her first job the next week at the state capitol and later retired as an office manager. She had lived in Greensboro for the past 47 years and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, W. J. Thurmond, Jr.; two sons, Jeff Thurmond and wife Amy of Greensboro, GA and Jay Thurmond of Greensboro, GA; three daughters, Yalonde T. Reese of Blairsville, GA, Marlene T. "Tootsie" Smith and husband Jeffery of Greensboro, GA and Dale T. Dyer and husband Chris of Blairsville, GA; two sisters, Sandra Marchman and husband Billy Wayne of White Plains, GA and Betty Baker and husband Jim of Albany, GA; three brothers, Lamar Bryans and wife Dianne of Greshamville, GA, Charlie "Bud" Bryans and wife Jewell of Ackworth, GA and Pat Tanner and wife Lynne of Alma, GA; and thirteen grandchildren, Casey Tolbert, Joe Tolbert, Cristin Smith, Jared Smith, Avery Smith, Claire Thurmond, Oakley Thurmond, Jeff Thurmond IV, Nick Thurmond, Jessica Thurmond, Calleigh Thurmond, Lauren Dyer and Tori Dyer.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 15, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville with Rev. Mike Pritchett and Rev. Durell Rice officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joe Tolbert, Jared Smith, Nick Thurmond, Bill Bryans, Reid Ballard and Billy Wayne Marchman, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday night at the Funeral Home.
