Helen Aycock Rice, age 93, of Watkinsville, Georgia, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. Helen was born in Farmington, GA on April 5, 1921, the daughter of the late Penn Quaker Aycock and Mattie Elizabeth Findley Aycock. Helen was a graduate of Watkinsville High School and received an Associate Degree from Atlanta Bible Institute. She was trained at the Child Evangelism Institute in Dallas, Texas and won many children to Christ on the school grounds in Chattanooga. On August 31, 1946 she married Durell Rice. She was a homemaker who helped her husband in the ministry and had lived in Farmington for the last forty-four years. She was a member of Freeman Creek Baptist Church in Watkinsville, GA. She loved working outside in the garden and growing flowers.
In addition to her husband, Rev. Durell Rice of Watkinsville, GA, she is survived by two daughters, Ann Rice of Watkinsville, GA and Miriam Swain and husband Roy of Smyrna, GA; a son, David Rice and wife Shelly of Athens, GA; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Philip Rice and Len Rice; and siblings, Emory, Laura, Eunice, Albert, Annie, Hugh and two infants at birth.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Farmington Cemetery, 2890 Old Farmington Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677 with Rev. Ken Jennings and Rev. Carlos Sibley officiating. The family will receive friends at their home Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday night at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro, GA.
