Helen Gleason Lewis, age 90, of the Liberty Community died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at her home. Helen was born in Bushnell, South Dakota on November 16, 1920 to the late J. Gleason and Mabel Hulser Gleason and raised in Iowa where she graduated from Peterson High School. She married John H. Lewis, whom she met in San Diego while he was in the Navy. Helen was a wonderful loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She loved to read novels and grow flowers. A former resident of Marietta, GA, she had lived in the Liberty Community with her daughter for the last eleven years.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband John Henry Lewis in 1993, and three sisters, June Berg, Barbara Hill and Julia Tuck. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Alfred Leclerc of the Liberty Community. Also surviving are her son, Doug Lewis of Woodstock; two grandchildren, Rhea and Jeff and a great grandson, Ryker; and a number of other relatives and friends. Helen will be sorely missed by her neighbors in Double Branches who all loved her dearly.
Graveside services will be held Friday, January 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery, 495th Street, Peterson, Iowa 51047.
