Helen Wilkes Landers, age 81, of Greensboro, Georgia died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at her residence. Born in Greene County on February 5, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Mell Hale Wilkes and Myrtle Reynolds Wilkes. She attended Greensboro High School. During her working career, she worked for A & P Grocery Store and Big Apple Grocery Store. Along with her husband she was the owner and operator of Landers and Wilkes Supermarket. In 1974 they returned to Greensboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lagran Landers, Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Gwendolyn L. Wildberger of Stone Mountain, GA, Virginia L. Crase and husband Tom of Tucker, GA, and Sandra L. Jarrell of Greensboro, GA; two brothers, Kretzer Wilkes and wife Ophelia of Lilburn, GA and Russell Wilkes and wife Laverne of Tucker, GA; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 8, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Ira McKeever officiating. Interment will follow at Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Tom Crase, Cyrus Crase, Craig Banks, Johnny Bailes, Dwight Stewart and Tony Worthy.
