Helen English Obituary

Helen Jarrell English, age 97, of Alachua, Florida formerly of Penfield, GA died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida. Born in Greene County, Georgia on March 27, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Jarrell and Emma Orena Wilson Jarrell. She grew up and attended school in Penfield, GA and attended the Penfield Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker with many interests but her family was most important. Always giving of her time she took care of everybody in a gentle and loving way. Helen was strong willed but her children considered her as "The Best Mama in the World". Helen moved to the Gainesville area in Florida in 1949.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Hubert English in 1972 and brothers, Edwin Jarrell, Weldon Jarrell, William Jarrell and Alva Jarrell. She is survived by her daughters, Martha Wood of Charleston, SC, Shirley Ferguson of Alachua, FL, Barbara Hall of Boca Raton, FL, Mary Good of Gainesville, FL and Nancy English of Hawthorne, FL; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Jim Choomack officiating. Interment will follow at Penfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Brian Ferguson, Troy Good, Art Stewart, Michael Richardson, Richard Tolbert and Rob Richardson. Honorary pallbearers are William Ferguson and Jeff Good.
