Harvey Higdon Obituary

Harvey Thomas Higdon, age 80, of Greensboro, GA, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at St. Mary''s Hospice in Bogart. Born on April 6, 1930 in McDuffie County and raised in Amity he was the son of the late William Dolphus Higdon and Cora Weaver Higdon. He was a 1947 graduate of Greensboro High School and married Joyce Atkinson on January 6, 1951. He was a relief person for Colonial Stores and started his own business in Greensboro in 1955 and ran a Grocery Store and several other businesses in Sparta, GA until the late eighties. He was the owner of Kool Kreek Farm where he and his son raised registered beef cattle. In 1982 he was the chairman of the Greene County Commissioners. Harvey was a member of the Siloam United Methodist Church, where he served as past chairman of the Administrative Council.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Atkinson Higdon of Greensboro, GA; a son, Tim Higdon of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Ethel Higdon Shevick of Greensboro, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Maude Patrick, Ruby Lord, Bonnie Hozendolf, Bessie Henslee, Ed Higdon, Luther Higdon, Roy Higdon, Delmar Higdon, Nelson Higdon, Arthur Higdon and Grady Higdon.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Siloam United Methodist Church, 1111 Church Street, Siloam, GA 30665 with Rev. Bert Mathews officiating. Interment will follow in the Siloam Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Tom Roberts, David Youngblood, Robert Fluellen, Joseph Hargrove, Wayne Corry and Lee Lord. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
