Gussie Louise English Johnson

Gussie Louise English Johnson, age 85, of Penfield, GA, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. She was the last of seven children born to the late Stephen Shelby English and Dora Dreyer English both of Penfield. Born on July 18, 1921 she was a lifelong resident of Greene County. She attended school in Penfield and graduated from Greensboro High School. After high school she worked for Chipman Union as a looper. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Penfield Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, James William "J.W." Johnson of Penfield, GA, she is survived by a daughter, Loretta Johnson Whittaker of Penfield, GA; a son, Steve Johnson and wife Kathy of Gulfport, MS; nine grandchildren, Stephen Johnson Jr., Crystal Johnson, James "D" Whittaker, Torrey Whittaker, Pat Crouch, Michael Crouch, Dave Crouch, Dan Crouch and Nita Crouch; and twelve great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter and husband, Frances and Anthony Crouch, a son-in-law, Billy Whittaker, a daughter-in-law, Donice Johnson; and her siblings, Pauline Olds, Helen Jarrell, Mary Morris, Noel English, Lewis English and Ragan English.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Penfield Baptist Church with Rev. John McMillian, Rev. Bobby Bear and Rev. David Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Penfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Mashburn, James Whittaker, Torrey Whittaker, Brent Whittaker, Stephen Johnson Jr. and Tony Ayers.
