Gretta Vivian Johnston Channing, age 82, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. A native of Youngsville, PA, she was born October 27, 1921 to the late Carey Johnston and Julia M. Johnston. After graduating from Warren, PA High School, she worked as a telephone operator. She enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 and served her country as one of its first WACS in World War II and later worked as a switchboard operator at Warren General Hospital. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Greensboro, GA. A  She is survived by two daughters, Karen Osche and husband Stephen of St. Mary''s, PA and Beth Lyons and husband Jude of Greensboro, GA; two sons, Craig W. Channing and wife Mary Jane of New Castle, PA and Terry K. Channing and wife Luanne of Greensboro, GA; eleven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred William "Bill" Channing; and five brothers, Art Johnston, Lyle Johnston, Marshall Johnston, Richard Johnston and Gail Johnston. A  Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Greensboro with The Rev. D. Geoffrey Taylor, Celebrant. A reception will follow in the church activities center. The cremains will be interred Friday, March 5, 2004 at 10:15 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Vivian Channing Memorial Fund at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, P.O. Box 93, Greensboro, GA 30642. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
