Grace Cook Obituary

Mary Grace Paul Cook, of Woodville GA, died Tuesday, January 23 at St Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA at the age of 84.  She was born on October 30, 1933 in Lexington, GA, the only child of the late Robert Clifford (R.C.) Paul and Mary Grace Miller Paul. Affectionately known as “Little Grace,” she attended school in Lexington and was a graduate of Oglethorpe County High School.  Grace received her degree in elementary education from Georgia State College for Women (GSCW) in Milledgeville.

On August 1, 1954 she married Richard Russell Cook of Woodville and began her life as an army wife.  Together they made the perfect military couple.  Grace traveled from state to state with Richard which included Kentucky, Virginia, Texas, Kansas, Alabama, Georgia, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, and Colorado before they returned to Georgia in 1979.  Never living more than two years in one place, Grace became the expert packer and army hostess.  She also taught school in many of the places that they lived before retiring after 25 years in education from Union Point Elementary School.  Grace proudly belonged to the Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma where her mother was a founding member.

Grace loved her lake home and enjoyed decorating it for every season.  She was a wonderful cook and delighted in baking bread for her relatives and neighbors.  Grace made friends everywhere she went and will be remembered by many for her kindness, loving nature, thoughtfulness, and generosity.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Ret. Colonel Richard Russell Cook.  Survivors include her two daughters, Gracie Branch of Norman, OK and Catherine White (Rick) of College Park, GA; three grandchildren, Cassy Lynn Mathis, Logan Calaway Branch and Austin Cook Branch; her wonderful caregivers, Frances and Glenda; and a wide circle of friends.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodville Baptist Church, 1191 Peachtree Avenue E., Woodville, GA 30669 with Dr. Lee Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Woodville Cemetery.  A reception will follow the service at the School House.  Serving as pallbearers are Johnny O’Neal, Russell Brock, Phil Brock, John Hill O’Neal, Logan Branch and Austin Branch.  The family will receive friends Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at the church. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Oconee Regional Humane Society, 1020 Park Avenue, Suite 101, Greensboro, GA 30642. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
