Gordon Dendy Harrison, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Vitas Healthcare in Duluth, GA. Dendy was born on April 11, 1945 in Athens, Georgia to the late Gordon Dendy Harrison, Sr. and Gaynor Page Dye Harrison. He was their only child. He received his primary and secondary education in the public schools of Greene County graduating from Greensboro High School 1963 as the Star Student. While growing up in Greensboro he was a member of the First Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy doing five tours of duty in Vietnam. Gordon married his high school sweetheart, the former Rosa Mary Puckett, on June 15, 1966. Since 1968 they have lived in Decatur, GA. He retired in 2000 after thirty two years of working with the Atlanta Gas Light Company as the Shift Supervisor of Computer Operations. He had a lifelong love affair with music, books, photography, writing and gardening. He spent his free time playing music (records and later on, begrudgingly, tapes and cds), reading (mostly sci-fi, fantasy and his favorite, comic books), taking pictures, writing in his journal and fussing with his flowers. His autumns were devoted to his beloved Georgia Bulldawgs. But his greatest love was his family where he truly shined as a wonderful husband, father (or most commonly referred to as the fourth child) and grandfather.
He is survived by Rosa Harrison, his wife of nearly fifty years; two daughters, Elaine Michelle Scott (Al) of Suwanee, GA and Rebecca Elizabeth LeAnne Hawk (Duane) of Cumming, GA; a son, Ken Harrison (Robin) of Cumming, GA; three grandchildren, Harrison Alexander Scott, Katherine Elaine Scott and Blane Roehrich; a number of other relatives and many friends.
