Gladys Leona (Yearwood) Rhodes

Gladys Leona Yearwood Rhodes of Union Point, GA, died on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Greene Point Health Care and Rehabilitation at the age of 81. Gladys was born in Coweta County on November 8, 1933, a daughter of the late William Cale Yearwood, Sr. and Mamie Lee Dingler Yearwood.  She graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute in Crawfordville, GA, the Salutatorian of her class.  On December 9, 1950, she married Albert Wilson Rhodes, Sr. and they made their home in Union Point, GA where she has lived since 1952.  In addition to being a homemaker, Gladys was an employee at Chipman Union for over 40 years in the seaming department.  Gladys was a member of Margaret’s Grove Baptist Church.  She was known for her kind and gentle nature and was loved by everyone who knew her. Not only was she a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, but she also gave freely of her time to care for others.  She loved the unique things found in nature and saw the beauty in simplicity.  A lady of many talents, Gladys loved gardening, cooking, and sewing.  She generously shared her talents with her family, friends, and neighbors.

In addition to her husband, Wilson Rhodes, she was preceded in death by two sons, Albert W. Rhodes, Jr. and W. Keith Rhodes; and siblings; Mattie Lunceford, W. C. Yearwood, Jr., Allison Yearwood, Daniel Yearwood, Frank Yearwood, Emmett Yearwood, Clinton Yearwood and George McCollough.  She is survived by three daughters Paula Rhodes Swint (John) of Warthen, GA, Wilma Rhodes Nichols (Kevin) of Greensboro, GA and Kelly Rhodes Hanes of Union Point, GA; sister, Dorothy Yearwood Burdette of Baldwin, GA; brother Ralph Yearwood of Monroe, GA; two daughters-in-law, Edna Rhodes of Watkinsville, GA and Mackie Rhodes of Greensboro, NC; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends, including her wonderful caregivers from Greene Point Health Care.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Callaway Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Yearwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669.  Serving as pallbearers are grandsons and great grandsons: John Swint IV, Luke Hanes, Jed Hanes, Alan Rhodes, Randy Miller, Gary Sanders, Joe Miller III and Sam Miller.   The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at Callaway Funeral Home in Union Point.  The family request that any memorials be made to the Margaret’s Grove Baptist Church, c/o Dorothy Rhodes, 2730 Bethany Church Road, Crawfordville, GA 30631 or The Gideons International, P.
