Gladys Lankford

Gladys Lankford, age 81, of Milledgeville, GA, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Born in Oglethorpe County on July 16, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Mell Lankford and Cleo Young Lankford. She attended school in Oglethorpe County and was a waitress at Western Sizzlin and Mr. Sirloin. Always a people person and willing to help others, she was a sitter with the Grandma Program at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. She was of the Baptist Faith and attended Freedom Church while living in Milledgeville.

She is survived by four daughters, Lynda Jean Wheeler of Milledgeville, GA, Sandra L. Heaton and husband Joel of Sharpsburg, GA, Cynthia Lynn Stephens and husband Edward of Milledgeville, GA and Mary Angela Whitner and husband Gary of Milledgeville, GA; a son, Clifford D. Lunsford and wife Annette of Fayetteville, GA; a sister, Faye Taylor of Union Point, GA; two brothers, Vernon Lankford of Charlotte, NC and Buck Lankford of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Joel Heaton officiating. Interment will follow at Wisteria Cemetery in Union Point, GA. Serving as pallbearers are Allen Stephens, Willie Giles, Danny Clark, Bill Wheeler, Chad Clark and Trey Brookins.
