George Sylvester “Bud” Wray
George Sylvester “Bud” Wray, age 82, of Bairdstown, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 at his residence with his loved ones. Born in Macedonia on December 7, 1935 he was the son of the late Whitfield and Eula Crane Wray. He was a lifelong resident in the Bairdstown Community where he attended school in Maxeys. On May 22, 1954 he married the former Dorothy Harriett McCannon. His working career began with Mary Leila Cotton Mill, then he worked for a trailer plant in Union Point and at the Wallace Dam. He retired in 1996 from Chipman Union in Union Point. He was a faithful member of Bairds Baptist Church in Bairdstown where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed bird and coon hunting with his bird dogs and coon dogs. He also enjoyed riding horses.
Bud was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Dorothy Wray of Bairdstown; his children, Kay Askew, Gil Wray (Crickett), Elaine Wray, Joe Wray (Stephanie), Brenda Wray, and Tim Wray (Rhonda); siblings, Helen Clark, Betty Adkins-Glover and Pat Roberson (Mercer); 14 grandchildren, Shannon Ruark, Tricia and Johnny Askew, Whit, T.J., Will and Tara Wray, Nick Thurmond, Ethan Smith, Trevor Wray, Jody Kotch, Chelsey Moody, Jessie Wray Colquitt and Dottie Wray; 19 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. Bud was preceded in death by his sisters, Bessie Mathis and Ruth Herrington; and a brother, Eugene Talmadge “Gene” Wray.
Funeral Services will be held, Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Bairds Baptist Church, 42 Bairdstown Loop, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Danny Holdridge officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday night at Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N. Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons: Johnnie Askew, Whit Wray, T.J. Wray, Will Wray, Nick Thurmond, Trevor Wray and Ethan Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Walker, Jack Crane, Ralph Crane, Kopas Ogletree and Jim Russell. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
