George Pierce Gentry, age 92, of Greensboro, GA, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Willow Run Retirement Home. A lifelong resident of Greene County he was born on December 6, 1913 to the late George Pierce Gentry, Sr. and Pierce Turner Gentry. Most of his life was spent in the Liberty Community of Greene County where he attended school and along with his late wife, Hollis Barnes Gentry, owned and operated Gentry''s Grocery Store. In addition to running a farm, he was the owner of George Gentry Logging and Sawmill which later became Gentry and Boswell Logging. Since August 4, 1922, he had been a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time at Cotton''s Corner talking and visiting with friends.
Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his wife, Hollis Barnes Gentry. He is survived by two daughters, Carol G. Walker of the Liberty Community and Kay G. Boswell and husband R. L. "Cotton" Boswell of Greensboro, GA; a brother, Sam T. "Red" Gentry of Greensboro, GA; four grandchildren, Janis W. Fowler and husband Dicky, Angela W. Deering and husband Scott, Farrett Boswell and George Boswell and wife Sherrie; nine great grandchildren, Ben Fowler, Alan Fowler, Anna Lynn, Victoria Boswell, Rob Boswell, Cavin Collins, Mikey Collins, Summer Collins and Cheyenne Kidwell; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Nicholas and Rev. Farrett Boswell officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Alvin Dowdy, Charles Crumbley, Dan Durham, David Strickland, Roger West and William Myers.
