George Monroe Dyar, Sr., 87, of Siloam, GA died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point. Born May 10, 1921 in Bartow County, he was the son of the late Clifford Henry Dyar and Pattie McWhorter Dyar. As a child he attended Adairsville grammar school and in 1940 graduated from Greensboro High School. While in high school he played football and received the best blocker award given by the Lions Club in 1939. During World War II he served his country in the United States Army in the Combat Military Police from November of 1942 until January of 1946. While in the European Theater he served in Patton''s 3rd Army during the Occupation of Frankfort, Germany. From there he went to the Pacific Theater in Okinawa, Japan. After the war he married Lenora Roberts in a wedding ceremony in Athens on April 16, 1950. For thirty-eight years he ran a dairy farm and then converted to beef cattle. For over fifty years he was in the agricultural business growing and harvesting timber. He was a member of the Baptist Faith, Farm Bureau and the Greene County Livestock Association. George will be remembered for being a kind man that everybody loved and his love for children. He was an avid sports fan of the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs and Greene County Tigers. He also enjoyed reading and digging in the Indian mound on the Dyar Farm with Dr. Kelly, an archeologist from the University of Georgia.

Mr. Dyar is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Lenora Roberts Dyar, of Siloam, GA; a son, George Monroe Dyar Jr. and wife Cindy of Alpharetta, GA; a daughter, Carol Dyar Sargent of Lagrange, GA; a brother, J.P. Dyar and wife Martha Sue of the Greshamville Community; five grandchildren, Benjamin Arthur Sargent, Rebecca Leigh Sargent, Courtney E. Dyar, Melissa L. Dyar and Jennifer L. Dyar; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick McWhorter Dyar, Sr. and Clifford Henry Dyar.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Siloam Baptist Church with Rev. James Bowen and Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow at Siloam Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Jon Dyar, Cliff Dyar, Pat Dyar, Bill Dyar, Mike Patrick and Terry O''Neal. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday before the service at the Siloam Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The family requests that memorials be made to the Siloam Baptist Church, c/o Terry O''Neal, P. O.
