George Roger Crane, age 55, of Buford, Georgia, formerly of Greene County, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at his residence. Born in Oglethorpe County on November 14, 1949, he was the son of Mazelle Campbell Crane of Greensboro, GA and the late Mack Paul Crane, Jr. Roger graduated from Greene County High School in 1970. During high school he was the lead singer in the band known as Freedom Suite. He then joined the United States Army. Around 1985 he returned to Greene County and became the lead singer in the band known as Southwind who played at a lot of parties and corporate conventions. He later joined Bob Hankins in Atlanta where they entertained at Underground Atlanta. He was a great showman who loved beach music and enjoyed performing one of his favorite songs, "Under the Board Walk". During the seventies The Rascals were his favorite group.

In addition to his mother he is survived by a daughter, Jenny Crane of Suwanee, GA; a son Justin Crane and wife Paola of Melbourne, FL; two sisters, Joanne Crane Palmer of Athens, GA and Patsy Crane Malm of Eatonton, GA; a brother, Tim Crane of Greensboro, GA; a special friend, Laine Craft of Dacula, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Penfield Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
