Geneva Greeson Sellers

Geneva Greeson “Duke” Sellers, age 89, of the Greshamville Community in Greene County, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at her daughter’s home in Watkinsville. She was born in Oglethorpe County on May 7, 1918 to the late Hugh Issac Greeson and Roxanne Floy Attaway Greeson. When she was a child the family moved to Greshamville where she attended Greshamville School. She married Lee Sellers in Madison on January 31, 1937. They had just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary when he died in 1987. While Lee was in the Army Air Corp, Geneva worked a brief time in Montgomery, AL at a candy store called J J Newberry’s. After World War II they returned to Greshamville where they lived on her family’s farm and raised their children. All of her married life she was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking and growing vegetables and flowers. She was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church where in her younger days she sang in the choir and was a member of the BYPU and WMU at Fork Chapel Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, Lee Roy Sellers, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Alpha Brown Peppers, Hugh Dorsey Greeson, Mattie Lou Jackson, Charles Galliard Greeson and Edward William Greeson. She is survived by her four daughters, Janice S. Daniel and husband Herby of the Greshamville Community, Rita S. Smith and husband Fletcher “Doc” of Vesta, GA, Jody S. Bowen and husband Steve of Hermitage, TN and Cheryl S. LaPalme and husband Carl of Watkinsville, GA; a son, Edward Lee Sellers of Macon, GA; a sister, Estelle G. Sellers of the Greshamville Community; seven grandchildren, Angela Howard, Amy Daniel, Russell Daniel, Pamela Brester, Jessica Fletcher, Natalie Hawk and Beth Cathey; twelve great grandchildren; a number of other relatives and friends; and her companion dog, Trixie.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons: Keith Howard, Russell Daniel, Brad Hawk, Joey Cathey, Andy Adams, John Brester and Justin Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers are Roger Bruce, Clyde Brown, Ottie Brown, Joe Brown, Jerry Sellers, Ray Sellers, Corry Copelan and Jackie Copelan. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Heart Association, P. O.
