Gaylord Thomas Allan, age 78, of Lake Oconee and formerly of Atlanta, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Athens, GA. Tom was born in Allanton, FL on December 22, 1931 to the late Charles Oran Allan and Louvina Oliver Allan. He attended public school in and around Panama City, FL. As a teenager, he moved to Atlanta and worked downtown in the summers at Davison-Paxum Company, now Macy''s, in the Inventory Central Department during high school and college. In 1952 he enlisted in the U S Navy and was commissioned as an Ensign in 1954 upon receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1984 at the rank of Captain after 32 years of service. He retired from The Coca-Cola Company in 1994 after 26 years of service as Manager of Group Benefit Plans. He was a member of Walker United Methodist Church of Greensboro.

He is survived by his wife Cathryn "Cathy" Garrett Allan of Greensboro, GA; three daughters, April Hollie Allan Owen and husband Gene of Alabaster, AL, Ann Heather Allan Cox and husband Michael of Macon, GA and Ashlie Hope Allan Darley and husband Hugh of Orlando, FL; stepson, James Scott Wilson and wife Jenifer Piland of Tallahassee, FL; a sister, Laura Allan Brown of Panama City, FL; 15 grandchildren, Miranda (Charles) Simerka , Holly (David) McConnell, Erin (Marquis) Mills, Shelly Owen, Laura Hollie Owen, Hannah Ashlann Owen, Bonnie Ann Bakert and fiance Mike, Brett Thomas Bakert, Cameron Cox, Austin Cox, Nathan Cox, Charlotte Hope Darley Chapel, May Darley, Dylan Joseph Wilson, Kaci Elizabeth Wilson; 6 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends; and his faithful dog, Bogie. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Oran Allan Jr., Ruford Allan, Helen Allan Stansberry, Earl Allan, Harry Allan and Crystal Allan Lehman.

Funeral Services with military honors, will be held Friday, June 11, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. John Pike officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The military will serve as pallbearers with Eugene Owen Jr., Michael Cox, Hugh Darley, James Scott Wilson, Cameron Cox, Austin Cox, Dylan Wilson, Rich Burns and Stewart Schwabe serving as honorary pallbearers The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at McCommons Funeral Home.
