Gary Lane Spain of Sparta, GA passed away at his home, Monday, September 9, 2013 at the age of 59. Originally from Gainsville, GA, Gary was born September 16, 1953. He graduated from Gainesville High School where he was an active member of the football and baseball teams and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He traveled the world pursuing his passion for the great outdoors and his love of hunting and fishing. His many hunting expeditions took him to African on Safari, Alaska, Canada, and Wyoming to name a few. He became a gifted carpenter and built many homes throughout the Southeast. In 2002, Gary moved to Sparta, Georgia to manage the operations and wildlife at Oakview Plantation.
He is survived by his good friend, Andrew Woodruff Jones, Andrew''s wife Ashley Liles Jones and their three children Rutledge, Ella and Reid.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14th, 2013 at 11:00am at Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church, 2830 Highway 15 South, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Pastor Tim Tabler officiating. A reception celebrating the life of Gary Spain will be held immediately following the service at Oakview Plantation, 1950 Log Cabin Road, Sparta, GA.
